The 38999 specification defines families of shells that intermate to provide protection from vibration, shock, and moisture. Inside the connectors are inserts that can be configured for a wide variety of contacts arrangements. MIL-DTL-38999 connectors are used to attach cables to one another or to electronics boxes in a wide variety of applications, including vehicles, ships, planes, and handheld equipment. They are also used in many non-military rugged applications like transportation and rugged equipment markets.
